When purchasing their dream home in Novato, our clients knew they'd eventually redo the primary bathroom to create the spa retreat of their dreams. What they didn't expect is that the 70's brown tiled-in bathtub/shower would immediately leak into their kitchen below, forcing them to prioritize the project. The goal was a beautiful, California casual style space that serves as a relaxing haven, but that is also practical for a young family with a baby and a toddler. That meant keeping a bathtub in the space, and also an open area where the kids can sit and play during busy mornings.
Take a look at where we started!
The tile was everywhere - covering the bathtub/shower, both vanities, and the floor in the water closet. We completely transformed this space with statement-making vertically stacked tiles that were carried beyond the walk-in shower all the way behind the beautiful custom white oak vanity. The luxury spa vibe was achieved with a deep soaking tub, large shower head, curbless walk in shower, and so many beautiful details.
Don't let the beautiful finishes fool you, this bathroom is very much kid-friendly. The stunning counters are actually very durable quartz, and the large rug in the middle of the space is machine washable with an outdoor rug pad that can handle getting wet.
While the visual transformation of this primary bathroom is stunning, the beauty is also in the functional improvements we made, which were many. This is where it really pays off to have a designer involved, because the little functional tweaks along the way make a huge difference. The list of functional changes is long, but the most impactful include recessed medicine cabinets for additional storage, adding pocket doors to improve the flow within the space, and removing the under-utilized makeup vanity in favor of a dresser for additional storage.
The trust our clients had in our vision for their dream bathroom coupled with the stunning results means this one will likely be one of our favorite projects for awhile! If you're looking to create a similar look in your home, try this wall tile in white and this floor tile.
