When gathering inspiration for this boy nursery, we knew the jumping off point would be a custom print of a monkey swinging from a palm tree in the jungle. People often gravitate to themes for kids rooms, and I think it's the only place in a home where a theme can work - if done right. The key is to build a neutral foundation for the theme, and limiting it to only a few accessories or pieces of art that support the theme. Round out the design with complimentary colors to pull it all together.
I created the jungle art print as a fun and nod to a carefree childhood, and decided that we would also pull in a few other jungle-related items to create a cohesive design. We wanted the backdrop of the nursery to be neutral so that it could grow with the little guy as his tastes and personality develop. I'm a big fan of keeping kids spaces rather neutral, because as much as you try, those brightly colored plastic toys will end up in their room. The space feels much calmer if the backdrop is serene and neutral.
